William (Bill) Dodson was born in Sydney Australia in 1959.

Bill spent seventeen years working in law enforcement with the New South Wales Police Force and the New South Wales Corrective Services specialising in tactical operations including hostage rescue, armed sieges, 
and counter-terrorism.

In 2000 Bill was commissioned by Pan Macmillan Australia to write his True Crime/Autobiography titled 'The Sharp End'. The first edition was released in 2001 followed by a second edition in 2002. 

The book tells his story of dealing with some of Australia's toughest criminals and his involvement in prison riots, murders, armed sieges, hostage rescue, armed holdups, drug 
busts, and counter-terrorism.

In 2012 Bill published an updated 3rd edition of The Sharp End which includes four new chapters and additional photos
